Silence. Some like it, some don't. Some don't know what to do with it and some don't know how to do without it.
When I was a young girl, I would come home from school to find Mama in the house, with no TV or radio on....no noise. First thing I did was cut the TV on. It's like I needed to HEAR. HEAR something...anything...NOISE. I subconsciously needed the audio stimulation for my brain to work. I believe that was true at the time.
As I grew up and grew older, now I find that I do not need the noise. I will drive down the road, most of the time now with no radio on. I will get up in the morning to catch a recap of the news to see what's going on in Crazy World today, but then I'm through with it.
Also, my body can physically multi-task, but my brain cannot. I feel it important to hear what you are saying to me and if the TV is on or loud music, it is very distracting to me. I will probably ask you to mute the TV, just momentarily.
I am not one to sit and watch TV all day long. Probably the most I sit and "watch/listen" to TV is at night when I am crocheting. Really what I am doing is crocheting and listening. It is usually something like the Hallmark Channel, History Channel or PBS. I positively cannot listen to the national news. You have two sides. My side and their side and of course, their side is the wrong side. No matter which side you are on, it is the same. This is the biggest waste of God's precious gift of time to us than anything else I know of. Listening to and getting angry over politics on the TV. Absolutely ridiculous! I'm pretty sure that I can't do anything about what is going on in Crazy World, except to pray about it. Will my ranting and raving change the situation? NO. It's like preaching to the choir. If you rant and rave and others agree with you, then they are on "your" side and agree with you and you all are right, regardless and you just rant and rave to each other about the same thing you agree on. If you rant and rave and others are silent or voice their disagreement, then they are wrong and you will belittle them and tell them what rotten creatures they are.......for basically not agreeing with you or what you are saying and you will force them away from you. That is no way to live in God's world. The evil one's greatest tool of them all, "Divide and Conquer".
Silence is good for me. Silence is golden to me. Silence allows me to hear God and let me tell you, I have heard him in my silence. There is no way I could hear Him with all of the "noise" distractions around. I believe "noise" is one of the evil one's greatest weapons. He does not want us to hear God. He will put any and everything out there to tempt our spirits to not have the ability to listen to God. The ability we have, is to cut the noise off.
Silence allows for a deeper connection with God. Being able to hear His voice more clearly. Silence allows us to center ourselves with God. In the moments of silence, we can hear the gentle whisper of the voice of God like Elijah did in 1 Kings 19:11-13. The times I have heard God, the times that God has spoken to me, it was not audible in my ears, but in my spirit and I heard it clear as a bell. When God talks to me, He doesn't say many words. Just the words that I need and understand. I cannot speak for how God talks to everyone...they may have a full-fledged conversation. But I can say, that when God has spoken to me, it was to the point and not many words. He probably knows it's best to keep it short with me 😲
The picture above comes close to the feeling I would have sitting in my warm home with the fireplace going and this is my view from the window. Between gazing at the fireplace and gazing at the snow falling outside my window, I could be perfectly quite and content....all day long, in silence.
Until next time!

~~~Joshua 1:9 NKJV~~~
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
(This verse is a command from God to Joshua, emphasizing his strength and courage, and assuring him of God's presence throughout his journey of leading the Israelites into the Promised Land.)
